Most business opportunities are somewhere else.
Even if you live in a big metro, more than likely over 99% of business is in other metros. The Global Chamber® home metro Phoenix for instance represents less than 0.3% of global business activity. Even for top GDP countries US and China... 85% and above of business opportunities are outside your country.
Why go after 1 customer next door when 99 are down the street?
As it is now, in the U.S. less than 1% of companies export, and of those, over 50% export to only one country, and of those, over half of them are either Mexico or Canada. That means that only a very small fraction of U.S. companies export to more than one country, and only a small sliver reach beyond North America.
And so less than 1 company in 100 are going after 85% of the world's opportunity, and 99 out of 100 are going after 15%. Which makes more sense to you?
It's a good question. It can be a lot easier to sell next door. We get that. Doing business in another metro in your own country, or in another metro in another country... can be tricky. You need to know more... logistics, legal, banking, marketing... plus partners and customers.
