2019 Business Update from Our Regional Desks

We spoke with our Regional Desks around the world to share with you tips to expand in these regions - anywhere in the world.

What segments and areas are going to be HOT? What's worth a look by you and your team? What's the latest from each region? That's a lot to cover in about an one hour! It's certainly not everything going on, but it gives our global tribe a good sample of the opportunities.

Donaji Montes covered Latin America and she spoke from the Bay Area more deeply on Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru and Mexico.

Alan Cary covered Europe and he discussed from Global Chamber headquarters what is expected to happen with Brexit and shared new opportunities across the continent especially Luxembourg, France and Spain.

Colin Christie spoke from Manila about the technology revolution happening in Asia and shared opportunities in the Philippines, Singapore and other ASEAN countries. Included was a discussion of the BPO industry and how it is evolving.

Abdelhak Benkerroum discussed China from Shanghai on what is expected with the US-China trade war, real estate, currency changes, healthcare, food and technology - especially blockchain and fintech overall.

Tina Sweis covered the Middle East and shared information on the 'City of the Future' Neom... and how that is being planned in Saudi Arabia. She shared other opportunities in Jordan, Qatar and across the region.

Osayi Igharo discussed the opportunities coming this year in Africa from Nigeria. He spoke about the unified Africa passport, African free trade agreements and the development of technology on the continent, and where to invest.

Ernie Watts covered North America from Chicago and discussed the trade agreements, the war with China and some business opportunities to consider amidst the international trade noise.

Speaker Biographies

Donaji Montes - CEO/Founder at Intechnational, LLC. Donaji is a bilingual and bicultural International Business Developer & Operations Coordinator with 11 years of experience working with technology companies to help grow their businesses. She has lived in Spain, Mexico, and in the US. Donaji has international business experience working for The US Mexico Foundation for Science Inc. (FUMEC), in the Technology Business Accelerator program (TechBA), which specializes in helping technology companies explore global markets. Now, Donaji is Intechnational LLC’s CEO and founder, a consulting firm based in the Silicon Valley that helps technology businesses with their international endeavors. She has coordinated the job of over 30 international consultants and has helped more than 155 technology companies. Donaji holds a BA in Management and Business Administration from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She studied International Business in Mexico with a selective Latin America student group and in Spain when she earned a scholarship to finish her University studies.

Alan Carey - Managing Director at Global Business Inc. Alan has over 30 years business experience in Europe and the US in both manufacturing and service industries, ranging from large, Fortune 500 companies to smaller businesses. At one time, he was the successful owner of an import/export company. Alan holds an advanced degree in Organization Development and has specialized in that field, with an emphasis on sales and marketing. He is the author of numerous published articles and has been involved in many community-based organizations. Alan has served as both an internal and external consultant to individuals and organizations in Europe, the US, and Africa, with additional contacts in Asia, Central and South America.

Colin Christie - Executive Director of Global Chamber ManilaColin is an international consultant, connector and collaborator. He is CEO/founder of the firm Sibol Consultancy Services and Executive Director of the Global Chamber® Manila, which helps member and sponsor companies grow globally. He is a serial entrepreneur that founded and grew several businesses, served on corporate boards and as CEO of public and private companies in USA and the Philippines. His expertise cover industries like Healthcare, Semiconductors, Information Technology, BPO and Publishing. Colin has served as Founding Board Member of the HIM Association of the Philippines (HIMAP).

Abdelhak Benkerroum (阿道) - Founder of Eastheimer ConsultingAbdel is a practical, inquisitive, straightforward professional. He lived and worked in Casablanca, Dubai, Marseille, Houston, Paris, Ankara, and now lives and works in China. He  helps companies grow their business, grow their people, and beat the competition. work with Chinese companies doing business with overseas counterparts, and foreign companies looking into doing business in/with ChinaCustomers include Alibaba, Shanghai Automobile, Chambers of commerce, Governments. and more. Abdel is the author of "We Have a Deal - 老外这样做销售“, published by China Customs Publishing House in English and Chinese.

Fatina "Tina" Sweis - Founder at Overachieving Women Association. Tine holds an MA in American Studies and has served in a variety of roles, most notably as Youth Advisor for the Prime Minister of Jordan.  She believes that every successful partnership starts when you pair an individual’s passion and skills with an environment that is ideal for their growth. Centered around her clients’ needs, Tina ensures that she matches each project with a set of goals that emerge from within a subjects needs to excel and be appreciated, whether it’s directing youth engagement programs, creating new business models and developing creative curriculum. Her dearest Co-Founded Initiatives are NewThink Theatre-Festival and EduArt.

Bouraïman Koné - Executive Director of Global Chamber Abidjan. Bouraïman was not able to attend at the last minutes, and instead, Osayi Igharo of Global Chamber in Nigeria attended in his place. Osayi is the founding and managing partner at Ripple VC. He is also head of deal flow origination and investor relations at a Boston family office. Prior to founding Ripple VC, Osayi was the Startup Director at GSVlabs, Silicon Valley's second largest technology incubator. Osayi has extensive business development experience in technology and innovation from the US, Canada, and Nigeria. His operating focus is in strategy development and execution, technology commercialization, and client acquisition and retention. He holds a BSBA in Management from the American University of Nigeria and an MBA in Technology Entrepreneurship from Kansas State University.

Ernie Watts - Executive Director of Global Chamber Chicago. Ernie’s entrepreneurial and international experience includes staff and management positions in both industrial markets and consumer hard goods. He has been directly responsible for strategic planning, sales and marketing, P&L and ROCE targets, investment analysis, strategic alliances, M&A, contract negotiations and the development of cohesive, high performance teams. Ernie has worked in corporate environments including Fortune 50, publicly traded global companies as well as small, privately owned domestic businesses. Internationally, Ernie has traveled and sold extensively in every major world market with significant experience in the emerging markets of Asia, Latin America and Africa. In each case he has demonstrated a unique ability to focus on critical success factors and make the necessary connections between strategy and tactics to exceed profitability targets. Ernie holds a business and marketing degree from Marquette University and earned his MBA in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He spent four years living in Mexico City and is a fluent, non-native Spanish speaker with a working knowledge of Portuguese.
