The State of Maryland hosted a delegation of European Union ambassadors and officials led by the Ambassador of the European Union to the United States, Stavros Lambrinidis to celebrate EU-Maryland's close connections and strong economic ties on Tuesday, December 3.

The celebration event in Baltimore was a first-ever joint European Union State outreach trip outside of Washington, D.C.

The delegation had meetings with Maryland state and local officials, students, educators, environmental and trade organizations and attended "EU celebrates Maryland" networking and cultural event at the American Visionary Arts Museum.

Thank you to our member Maryland Department of Commerce for their continue successful outreach to the world, assisting the region to connect with global business opportunities.

The EU is Maryland's biggest source of foreign investment and over 100,000 jobs in Maryland are created due to trade and investment with the European Union member states. Many notable companies including Sephora (FR), Kingspan (IRL), Volvo(SW), Kingspan(IRL) Guiness (IRL),Tenax (IT), and WedoTechnologies(PT) are based in Maryland.

Beyond Maryland, the US and the EU enjoy a healthy trade relationship to the benefit of both with $528 billion US exports of goods & services to the EU and $629 billion from the EU to the US.

Global Chamber® Baltimore/Washington intends to work even more closely with US and EU companies to promote and expand their cross border commerce. Thank you for your collaboration and support. Let's grow!

Attendees include Mayor of Baltimore Bernard ’Jack’ Young, Rebecca Alban Hoffberger, Founder of AVAM, the Adjutant General of Maryland Major General Tim Gowen, Deputy Secretary of State Luis Borunda, and Deputy Secretary of Commerce Ben Wu.

See the information shared by the EU group on trade, below.
