Potential Employee Interview Survival Guide, re: COVID-19

This is not a legal document, contract or legal advice.

This is an optional checklist of questions to be considered by employers and potential employees to promote healthy employment practices during the global pandemic.  Consult your own attorney to interpret the laws where you reside.

1.    BEFORE THE INTERVIEW – WORKERS PREPARE TO ASK

    Learn about the company from its website, social media pages, and press releases. Search online for articles and reviews to read what others have to say.

    Print a copy of your resume to refer to if needed.

2.   DURING THE INTERVIEW

    Ask the potential employer: “What are your PPE protocols or practices?” 

    Ask the potential employer: “Has any of your past or current employees tested positive for Coravid-19 as a result of working at your company?”

    Ask the potential employer: “What are the risk factors, if I come to work for you?”

    Ask the potential employer: “Do you have the minimum PPE at the job?  i.e. thermometers, gloves, hand sanitizer, disinfectants”

    Ask the potential employer: “What are your social distancing practices? What are the protocols employees use working on the job?”

    Ask the potential employer: “Is your Office configured to provide for social distancing?  If not, what PPE do you use to improve the environment?  i.e. gloves, face mask, face shields, other”

    Ask the potential employer: “How frequent is your work site professionally cleaned?”

    Ask the potential employer: “Will my medical condition be protected under HIPAA?”

    Ask the potential employer: “Will I be required to sign any waivers, if so please explain?”

    Ask the potential employer: “What is the company practice when an employee has COVID19?”

3.   AFTER THE INTERVIEW (REPLY TO THE EMPLOYER BASED ON THE JOB OFFER)

    Send a personalized thank you email or letter to the interviewer.

    Review your notes and prepare for the next round.  Accept or turn-down the position based on facts. You should be prepared to justify why you did not accept a position if the answer is related to PPE or any other reason. This may be required if you are on unemployment compensation.
