Last week we held a globinar on Emerging Markets: Nigeria Trade Opportunities.

This discussion featured a focus on HOT markets in Africa for business, special focus on Nigeria. We assembled experts who are based there including the Global Chamber® Executive Director in Lagos, Adesola-Debbie DARAMOLA.

As a form of background, the Federal Republic of Nigeria consists of 36 states, with a capital territory containing the capital Abuja.

Nigeria is bordered to the north by Niger, to the NE by Chad, to the east by Cameroon and to the west by Benin. The country is located on the Gulf of Guinea, to the south.

The official language of Nigeria is English. There are three national languages and many other regional languages.

Nigeria is the 7th largest country in the world by population (206 million, 2020 estimate), 23rd by GDP (US$1.275T) and 32nd by size. Nigeria has the 3rd largest youth population in the world.

We primarily focused on 5 market segments in the discussion... agriculture (including food and beverage), manufacturing, minerals, technology and services. Our expert speakers covered key trends, top opportunities and the impact on the economy of covid-19.

Speaker Bios

Barr, Kola Awe - MD/CEO of XPT Logistics. Kola Awe is currently the Chairman of NACCIMA EXPORT GROUP and a shareholder / Director of Nexportrade Houses Ltd, the first export trade house initiative under a PPP arrangement. He was a consultant and trainer for the USAID NEEP and NEXTT Project on the ecowas trade liberalization scheme and market development in west Africa for SME respectively. Awe is a Legal Practitioner of repute who has over time diverse into other fields of endeavours. Particularly, because of his interest in developmental economy, youth empowerment and women inclusiveness, Awe has chosen the part of export development and promotion. He is an exporter of over 20 years with export experience cutting across sectors.

Equipped with experience and expertise in export business and it's value chain. In 2005 he  produced and anchored the EXPORT WORLD, an export oriented television programme, on NTA Channel 10 for NEPC. This he presented till 2007. He was also the publisher/editor of EXPORT WATCH MAGAZINE, which is currently undergoiing rebranding. Having great insight on the role of information technology in 2018, he developed an e commerce platform; nigeriaeexport.com, the e commerce platform is to enhance market access to exporters and create an interactive medium for export information. 

Awe has handled freight forwarding and haulage  transactions in West and Central Africa  for multinationals, governmental and quasi-governmental clients across Nigeria and the West African Region. His company maintains offices in Ghana and Liberia to support his logistics and market penetration strategy. He has been responsible for the establishing markers in west Africa for companies like Vitafoam plc, Lacasera, May & baker, Dangote noodles, Nigeria distillerries, Kimberly Clark (makers of huggies pampers) amongst others 
 
His passion to see genuine growth in non-oil export sector led him to spearhead and consult in the Zero to Export programme of NEPC: an initiative which has so far trained more than 800 participants from A-Z of exports across the countr and have produced over 9 co-operative and individual that have a cumulative export of over 300m dollars between 2015 to 2019.

Ambassador Sola Bunmi Adeniyi of GoGreen Africa Initiative is a renowned agriculturist, development coach, author and teacher. His unrivalled experience in the industry has earned him many awards and honours from both the public and private agricultural sectors. He is an Israeli-trained agribusiness developer/value chain expert with network in Kenya, Netherlands, South Africa, Ghana, Botswana, Dubai and Malaysia. He is a partner with noteworthy agricultural research institutes worldwide. Mr Sola has trained over 5000 individuals on sustainable agricultural practices with the youth and women as the focus. He has empowered and imparted many lives through his development and incubation centre. He is a lover of youth and has advocated for their involvement in policy making.

Some of his companies include: GoGreen Africa Initiatives which is an NGO basically into capacity building,  Mcube global connect limited which is into exportation of commodities, Natural Nutrient Limited and Highhill Agribusiness Development and Incubation centre. For his innovative contributions and demonstration of resilience towards his pursuit of GoGreen initiatives, he was awarded the Nigeria Agro Ambassador in 2017 and the NAGROPRENEUR OF THE YEAR at the 2018 Nigeria Agriculture Awards. Mr Sola has diligently harnessed opportunities in the industry and has on many occasions given insightful perspectives and strategies to drive progress in Africa’s agricultural sphere. 

He has planted over 200 varieties of crops and has exporting license to European countries. Through one of his companies, Natural Nutrient Limited, he has produced plant and fruit based cosmetic products made from Moringa, Plantain, Avocado and bitter leaf. Natural nutrient also produces organic products like fertilizer and different kinds of agro inputs which are been exported to different African countries through his exporting company. Apart from crops, he is into duck farming, piggery, cuniculture, cattle rearing and aquaculture. His International company Mcube Investment is the platform he uses to export agriculture commodities and import equipment with branches in different African countries.

Mr Sola is a member of national and international associations and institutions spanning between agriculture and management. He is an Advisory Board Member, African Society of Agribusiness Professionals, Fellow and Council Member, Institute of Agribusiness Management of Nigeria and member, International Food and Agribusiness Management Association. He was awarded the Patron of the Farmers Association of Nigeria (Lagos Branch) for his unquantifiable contributions to the industry.  

He is the Chairman of Highhill Holdings, a conglomerate company that is into real estate, properties and logistics with operational offices in Nigeria, Dubai and Kenya. Ambassador is the founder of GoGreen Africa Initiative and the Lead strategist of G-CAP (Green City Agribusiness Promotional Programme. As the pioneer of Hass Avocado production in Nigeria, he was recently appointed as the Executive Director of the Avocado Society of Nigeria.

Mr Sola has also served in different executive capacities. He has used his wealth of experience to build and grow high ranking organisations. He is the Director of Membership and Engagement, Institute of Agribusiness Managemen and also the Vice Chairman Ekiti State University Alumni body (Ogun State chapter) where he finished 15 years ago.

As a consultant, Mr Sola has handled different multi-million projects for both the government and private companies with exceptional outcomes. Mr Sola is happily married to his Queen, Fola with two kids.

Adesola-Debbie DARAMOLA is a graduate of Yaba College of Technology in Accounting, Post Graduate Diploma, in Strategic Management from Metropolitan school of Business UK, Masters of Business Administration in Management Information System from UNICAF and member of CIM UK.  She is Multi-talented,  industrious, intelligent, hand working and meticulous lady, with working experience spanning 15 years in the Financial Industry (Banking & Insurance).
