How Small Actions Can Create Global Change

Posted by: Jemima Escultura-Liam on Friday, May 9, 2025

Masami Sato is a global leader and speaker, and she stopped by Global Chamber® to discuss how small actions can create profound global change in a globinar with CEO Doug Bruhnke and members from around the world. Masami is based in Singapore and so we caught up with her visiting New York City, overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. She shared her personal journey as a successful serial entrepreneur and her experiences as a global triber. Watch the conversation HERE.

During the globinar Masami emphasized the importance of collective good and how small actions can lead to significant change, not just in communities but around the world. Masami also encouraged the audience to reflect on their own stories and aspirations, and the conversation ended with Q&A.

She shared her personal experiences growing up in Japan, feeling small and struggling to connect with the world. Masami learned valuable life skills from her grandparents' small family business and later traveled the world, discovering the joy of connecting with people from different backgrounds. Through her experiences, she realized the importance of community and the challenges faced by others, such as children unable to complete their education and people with physical disabilities.

Masami discussed significant global issues, such as lack of access to clean water and education, and the need for increased investment to address these problems. She highlighted the potential for businesses to make a difference by investing more in these areas, and she emphasized the importance of meaningful connections between everyday actions and the opportunities to solve global problems, suggesting that these connections can create a profound impact. She has used these challenges to create solutions. Read more about Masami on Linkedin, here.

Masami shared her life story, emphasizing the transformative connections she experienced. She discussed her upbringing, her relationship with her parents, and her decision to become a mother. Masami's journey led her to start a business, which she initially ran with her daughter on her back. The business grew, and she eventually sold it to start her dream business. She realized that despite her hard work, she was not fulfilling her initial goal of making a difference. She reflected on this and considered alternative ways to achieve her goal.

Hence Masami created B1G1, an organization that aims to incorporate small acts of kindness into everyday business actions. The idea was born from a desire to provide meals to children in India, which could encourage them to focus on their studies. Masami emphasized the importance of making these acts of kindness a part of daily business transactions, rather than just a one-time event. She also highlighted the power of small actions when brought together by many people and businesses, leading to significant positive change. Masami concluded by emphasizing the importance of uplifting everyone, as environmental and educational projects are only effective when everyone has access to basic needs like water.

Doug and Masami discussed the expansion of the platform to include more US-based charities and causes. They emphasized the importance of supporting organizations that meet their criteria and can work on project-specific breakdowns and financial measurements. They also highlighted the potential for tax benefits for philanthropic giving in the US.

Brian Swords suggested that expanding the platform to include more US-based causes could be beneficial for corporate participation. Francis proposed introducing Masami to potential businesses and not-for-profits that could be part of their program.

Masami expressed her belief in the potential of businesses and entrepreneurs to make a significant positive impact through regular contributions and support for social impact organizations. Watch for a follow-up globinar next month at Global Chamber.
