Gunjan Bagla gave a magnificent summary of the situation with trade between India and US, including the opportunities at the monthly Export-Import Forum at Global Chamber®, moderated by Anita Rodal.
India and the U.S. are moving closer to a trade deal. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently completed a four day trip to Washington, meeting his counterpart Howard Lutnick, Commerce Secretary, and meeting Jamieson Greer, the U.S. Trade Representative.
In addition to these latest meetings, Gunjan spoke more strategically about challenges and opportunities, and watch the conversation HERE.
Gunjan mentioned that India expects a three stage process:
- Step one could cover topics including market access for industrial goods, some farm products and addressing non-tariff barriers.
- The second stage may be broader and more detailed, and timed for around September when Prime Minister Narendra Modi could be expected to visit the US, per his normal pattern.
- The final leg of the deal will likely be a comprehensive agreement that would follow once there’s approval from the US Congress.
We encourage you to watch this update from Gunjan!
