World Refugee Day - Phoenix

The United Nations designated June 20, 2001 as the first annual World Refugee Day, acknowledging fifty years of responses to the 1951 UN Convention on the Status of Refugees.

World Refugee Day commemorates the strength, courage, resilience and contributions of refugees throughout the world. It is a time when we focus on the incredible achievements of refugees who have become our neighbors, friends, co-workers, and countrymen - and it’s also a day when we consider the causes of their forced migration, the millions who are still persecuted and displaced without safety and protection, and the need for a world response to refugees’ plight.

The Phoenix celebration of World Refugee Day will take place on June 22nd at Camelback High School (4612 N. 28th Street Phoenix, AZ 85016) from 4-9 PM and will celebrate the rich contributions of refugees to the Valley and Arizona. This year we are honoring World Refugee Day by highlighting refugee culture and traditions through food, cultural booths and a talent show. The event is completely free and open to the public. Join us at our event to learn, volunteer, and have some fun!

Safed House will participate in this event which is co sponsored by Safed House, International Rescue Committee and many others.

Safed House contributions on June 22: We are proud to release our video 'Alaa and Souzan'. They share stories about cherished ones they left behind in Syria. WATCH HERE.

Please join us on June 22nd when Alaa and Souzan talk in person about their refugee experience as members of the Phoenix community. More
