Speakers Bio

Jeff Pappas - Executive Vice President of Site Selection at E. Smith Realty Partner (ESRP) . As Managing Director of E Smith Realty Partners, Jeff represents corporate clients on a local and national basis, managing their real estate requirements and lease negotiations. He specializes in negotiating multiple leases across the country for various clients in office, industrial, medical, and retail space. Over the last four years alone, Jeff has successfully completed lease transactions totaling over 5 million square feet of space, resulting in value-added savings of over $15 million for his clients. Jeff’s skills include implementing and developing property databases, evaluating national benchmarks to identify favorable demographics and negotiating economic incentives for a wide range of clients, particularly in the teleservices, telecom and high-tech industries.

 

Carol Mello - Regional Alliance Manager at Safeguard Global. Carol is the Regional Alliance Manager for Safeguard Global based out of San Francisco Bay Area. She works with all size companies in all industry verticals expanding globally and sourcing international talent. Advising and getting their global contractor workforce compliant and providing education and mentorship on developing go to market strategy for foreign markets. Carol has worked in the global cross-border field throughout her entire career. She has extensive experience in doing paralegal work for US work visas, opening foreign entities, managing international vendor sourcing and vetting, global mobility, tax equalization, account management, international payroll/HR operations and global compliance. She has been guiding companies on common pitfalls while establishing international operations and how to avoid costly mistakes and liability while entering foreign markets. On her spare time, she enjoys long distance running and traveling around the globe.

 

Susana Trasente - Project Manager for the Economic Development Services team at the City of Peoria. Susana is the Project Manager for the Economic Development Services team at the City of Peoria. In addition to working with international firms seeking to diversify, Susana’s responsibilities include managing, planning and monitoring projects and programs related to the implementation of development opportunities. 

Prior to joining the City of Peoria, Susana was the Regional Economic Development Specialist for Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) where she was heavily involved with international project management. She successfully led several trips for elected officials to Mexico as well as organized high-level meetings for international visitors.  Susana was also part of the Global Compliance and Mergers and Acquisitions teams at Freeport-McMoRan Inc. An advocate for women, Susana spearheaded the Freeport-McMoRan Women’s Initiative Network and served as its first President. Susana holds a BA in Psychology and Business from Arizona State University and an MBA from Grand Canyon University.
