Join us for the Global Chamber Book Author Workshops, a series designed to empower aspiring authors and seasoned writers alike.

 

Speakers:

Marrisa Thornton - CEO at ARTICULATE 

Marrisa Thornton has worked as a Supervisory Program Analyst for the U.S. Census Bureau for the past 8 years. She previously worked in the Higher Education sector within Student Services. Marrisa also works as a freelance content editor and has edited fiction novels and nonfiction publications for the past 10 years. She uses the name ARTICULATE as her editing brand, as she hopes to help people articulate their stories and thoughts in a way that audiences can easily understand and enjoy.

Marrisa was born and raised in Hampton, VA. She later moved to Madison, AL where she attended Bob Jones High School. She earned her B.S. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, master’s degree from George Mason University, and a master’s certificate in Survey Methodology from the University of Maryland. She currently assists women in her church as part of an 18-month women’s discipleship program. She resides in Maryland and can be found reading, baking, or hula hooping during her free time.

 

Virgil Thornton II - General Engineer in the Division of Environmental Protection, Sustainability Branch, at the National Institutes of Health

Virgil Thornton II is a General Engineer in the Division of Environmental Protection, Sustainability Branch, at the National Institutes of Health. When not at his day job, he operates as the owner of Weird Disciple Publishing, a micro-publisher that focuses on quality entertainment with Christian nuance. He also authors or co-authors multiple series, including the Blades of Trinity sci-fi novel series and the Fables of Four audio show series (found on his YouTube channel).


Virgil graduated from Virginia Tech in 2021 with a bachelors in Civil Engineering and a dual minor in Green Engineering and Creative Writing. Then, in 2023, he received a master’s in Business Administration from Saint Leo University. Much of his writing inspiration comes from his favorite books and shows, like the Locked Tomb series, the Emily Wilde series, One Piece, and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. He is passionate about Christian faith and the environment.

 

Courtney Thornton - Senior Strategist for Headquarters Air Force at the Pentagon

Courtney Thornton is a Senior Strategist for Headquarters Air Force at the Pentagon. In her role, she leads strategic initiatives that strengthen the Air Force's operations and global security cooperation, working closely with DoD and allied partners. Courtney has spent over a decade serving in the DoD with numerous awards, including the Black Engineer of the Year Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award, Air Force Civilian Meritorious Service Medal, and Joint Civilian Service Achievement Medal.


A native of Hampton, Virginia, Courtney earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering from Hampton University and holds a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from Air Command and Staff College. She has been recognized as a Forty Under 40 honoree by her alma mater for her contributions to STEM and defense.

Outside of her professional work, Courtney co-authored Black of the Mind with her siblings, exploring themes of identity, resilience, and generational legacy. She is passionate about mentorship, especially for young women in STEM, and continues to serve her community through outreach and leadership initiatives.

Dana Austin - Founder of Transformational Writers Academy & Executive Director at Global Chamber® Atlanta

Dr. Dana M. Austin, a Registered Nurse (RN) and Clinical Research Professional, is the Executive Director of Global Chamber Atlanta. She is also an award-winning, best-selling author of "Tea With Strings Vignettes: Culture, Customs & Recipes" She is also the Host, Transformational Coach and founder of the Transformational Writers Conference and Non-Profit Transformational Writers Academy (TWA). Her Non-Profit (TWA)supports the  enrichment, and empowerment of Youth-At-Risk, to become authors, entrepreneurs (Authorpreneurs) and public speakers. She coaches the 90-Days to Manuscript Masterclass, supporting literary dreams to become realities for budding authors.

Dana is also CEO of Dana Austin Speaks, LLC, and loves to travel worldwide for pleasure and  as an international speaker.  She integrates her love of business, and Her natural ability, as a connector and impactful leader, to help bring global leaders and businesses together.

Dana leads the Global Chamber monthly Book Author series.
