Global Chamber Launches in Salt Lake City November 19th
Initial Event with Toronto Stock Exchange Shares Funding Opportunities for Utah Companies

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (November 18, 2014). – Global Chamber®, an organization engaging leaders, companies and communities in more successful cross-border trade and investment, officially launched this month to 500 cities around the world. Special cities have been selected for chapters, and now following Phoenix and Tucson, Salt Lake City launches November 19.

"Welcome Global Chamber to Utah! As the University of Utah and regional businesses expand globally, we're pleased to have additional resources to grow globally, and we appreciate the collaborative approach of the Global Chamber,” said Michael Hardman, Distinguished Professor and Chief Global Officer, University of Utah.

Global Chamber® Salt Lake City is sponsoring the event “Need Growth Capital? Look To Canada” with the Toronto Stock Exchange at The Grand America Hotel from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The event will feature global growth panels, one-on-one meeting opportunities, networking and more. Global Chamber® is collaborating on the event with Canada, the Utah Governor’s Organization of Economic Development and the Salt Lake Chamber.

Global Chamber® closes resource gaps that organizations face when expanding globally by providing key services and support for its members, sponsors and partners around the world. The world’s first collaborative ‘global’ chamber of commerce offers member access to resources such as in-person and virtual international business events, an online global career center, mentoring, trusted connections, training, video content, trade articles and more.

"Those of us who engage with global business have a special connection with each other,” said Doug Bruhnke, founder and CEO of Global Chamber®, “and that connection keeps us tied together even as we're doing business far from home. Global leaders gain by staying connected to share best practices and trusted connections, and we facilitate that through our new website, events, training, education, mentoring, introductions and more via the Global Chamber®.”

Arizona and global launch events were held on November 5 and 6 and featured speakers Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, Mexico Consul General Roberto Rodriguez, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and other regional and global leaders.

“Bringing in this chamber will be another tool to expand exports and imports,” said Mayor Rothschild, who has made expanding trade with Mexico a top priority of his administration.

The Global Chamber® launch follows 7 years of operations as Arizona International Growth Group (AZIGG), which over that time had nearly 400 speakers and collected over 20,000 followers. Global Chamber® will continue some of the AZIGG best practices including collaborating regionally, supporting global connections and providing mentoring on global growth and global careers. Global Chamber® plans to expand to hundreds of cities around the world over the next several years, with Arizona as its hub.

Utah was chosen as the first hub city outside Arizona because CEO Doug Bruhnke’s connections are deep here, including an undergraduate degree at the University of Utah, running a company in Orem, working on Salt Lake 2002 and marrying his bride of 32 years in Salt Lake City.

“Salt Lake is a home for us, and I’m so pleased to see the global progress since the Olympics,” said Bruhnke. “Then Governor Bangerter got many of us together and talked about the need to leverage the Olympics for the future global vitality of Utah, and subsequent leaders have largely fulfilled that potential. There are still more gaps, and we expect to help fill those along with other organizations. It takes a village to grow globally, and we’re happy and proud to help out and do our part in Utah.”
