Caitlin Balderrama

Caitlin Balderrama is the Branch Manager and Licensed Customs Broker of Mainfreight’s Arizona Branch. Mainfreight is a New-Zealand-based global 3PL with offices in 26 countries across Europe, Oceania, Asia and the Americas, and providing warehousing, Trucking Air, Ocean and Customs services. As founding Manager of the Arizona Branch, she has driven growth, excellence in customer service and strong fundamentals of global freight as the foundation of the branch. She received her degree in European Studies from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, and has lived and worked in various countries including Ireland, Belgium, Russia, Argentina and Peru. Casey Gilchrist

Casey is Senior Director of International Business Development at Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC). She has worked in the economic development field since 2015, having first started in Chesapeake, Virginia where she specialized in domestic and international business attraction. In 2020, Casey joined the City of Richmond, Virginia’s economic development department to oversee both its business attraction and retention programs. During her tenure in Richmond, she helped contribute to over $850 million in capital investment and assisted in announcing over 2,000 new jobs. Casey's leadership and project management experience will support GPEC in attracting and growing quality businesses. Carol has been representing the Office of the President of the United States, U.S. Trade Representative for Arizona. She also serves on the Arizona District Export Council, and is Chairman at Amber Alert GPS. Carol leads our Trade Policy Committee.

 

Carolin Gey

Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, AZ

Carolin has over 25 years of experience building upon her early work in European health care and wellness. Armed with a working knowledge of how the European community conducts business she located to the United States in 2002. There she has been responsible for the start up of several businesses in the health care/wellness, sports, and manufacturing industries that have international ties. Common to these companies was her success in building business partnerships between the US and non-US companies. Carolin’s focus in each of these enterprises was in company management, US and international distribution, product development, and branding.

 

Carolin’s most recent efforts have been in the health and wellness distribution industry. She is the managing partner of kybun LLC, which is the exclusive importer and distributor of Swiss kybun products in the United States. Carolin is responsible for growing the B2B and B2C business in both markets as well as overseeing all organizational aspects of this business.

In February 2020 Carolin was inaugurated as the Honorary Consul to the Federal Republic of Germany in the state of Arizona. She lives with her husband and son in Scottsdale, AZ.

 

Senator Catherine H. Miranda

Member of the Arizona State Senate, representing District 11

Senator Miranda represents Arizona District 11. She assumed office on January 9, 2023. The Senator previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives, representing District 27 from 2011 to 2015.

Senator Miranda is the Ranking member of the Education Committee, and she also sits on the Commerce and Public Safety Committees. Prior to serving in the Arizona State Senate, she served two terms as State Representative. Her priorities are education (with a special focus on DreamAct students), veterans, health, and immigration.

Senator Miranda is committed to improve the current level of education in Arizona. In fact, the Senator is co-founder of the Manzana Foundation which helps students prepare for college. Catherine's passion in education has given DreamAct students an opportunity to continue their education at an affordable price through a partnership between the Manzana Foundation and the Navajo Technical College.

Senator Miranda also founded the bipartisan Arizona Legislature Business/Education Forum aimed to guide the Business and Education communities to transform new knowledge and new technology into a new paradigm for education. Among the Senator's appointments is her seat on the Executive Committee of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), where she was named Chairwoman for the International Relations, Trade, and Immigration Task. Senator Miranda has also served 6 years on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO), the largest and oldest Latino elected officials' organization in the United States.

Consulado General de Mexico en Phoenix

Consul General Jorge Mendoza Yescas 

The Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix is a consular mission representing Mexico in central and northern Arizona. It is the main of five consular representations in the state of Arizona that provides consular services and serve the Mexican community in its district. David Farca

Born and raised in Mexico City, David graduated from UI (Universidad Iberoamericana) with a degree in Biomedical Engineering, which created the opportunity for a second venture in the medical field distributing surgical lasers. David’s interest remained in medical imaging and his experience in the field and a degree in Medical Imaging Infrastructure from MIT, David’s opinion in designing and specifying digital imaging departments became very well respected throughout Mexico becoming a business column writer for “Diagnostic Imaging America Latina” a Miller Freeman Publication and a Board Member of the Mexican Society and the Mexican Federation of Radiology (SMRI and FMRI). David moved to Scottsdale with the purpose of turning his passion for cross border business into his third business endeavor, creating a holding group of international companies in several industries including manufacturing, hospitality and professional sports. David now consults companies wanting to expand operations in Mexico and the United States... including partnering with Global Chamber on the organization's growth in Mexico.

She is one of the “Top 10” Hispanic women with more media presence on both sides of the United States and Mexico border.

With a long list of regional and national awards for her career, she has displayed great versatility embracing every role from journalist, news anchor, reporter, producer and writer. For over a decade, Mary Rábago has taken on a new role, that of entrepreneur, opening “Mary Rabago Productions” a Marketing Agency that has already garnered national attention for their creative solutions. She has been recognized by Latina Style Magazine as Entrepreneur of the year, Cox Communication as entrepreneur of the year and Outstanding Women in Business by the Phoenix Business Journal in her short career as an entrepreneur.

 

Marc Pierce

Martha Medina, Ph.D., M.B.A.

Vice President of International Sales at 21st Century HealthCare, Inc.

She is originally from Mexico City and has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Arizona State University and a M.B.A. from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico. She has presented her doctoral research in international conferences and has published several journal articles and a book chapter. Dr. Medina has a background in R&D and Quality of consumer goods and dietary supplements and for the last 13 years has developed an extensive base of knowledge and experience in international registration, sales and marketing and logistics of dietary supplements. She has successfully registered and entered markets all around the world, with a concentration in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Her background in Biochemistry, together with her work experience and multilingual and international upbringing have allowed her to establish long-lasting and successful connections for exporting products worldwide. Dr. Medina serves on the Arizona District Export Council and in her “spare” time, she also serves as President of the PTO and Art Masterpiece Coordinator at one of her son’s elementary schools. She is a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and has been teaching kickboxing for the past 23 years.

 

Matt Salmon

Special Advisor on International Affairs at ASU

Matt Salmon is a Special Advisor on International Affairs at ASU. Formerly, he represented the 5th District of Arizona for five terms in Congress. Matt served three terms before honoring a self-imposed term limit and leaving Congress in 2000, at which time he worked as a consultant to ASU on matters related to education policy. He returned to Congress in 2012 and was re-elected in 2014 and retired in 2016.Salmon was a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, serving as chairman of the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, and as chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. In that capacity he has led numerous delegations to China.

From 1977 to 1979 Matt lived in Taiwan as a Mormon missionary and speaks fluent Mandarin. During his tenure in Congress, he introduced several pieces of legislation to expand Taiwan’s international stature, such as the bill to include Taiwan in Interpol. In 2017, Matt joined GTI’s delegation to Taiwan for a conference with Taiwan Think Thank. Matt graduated from ASU in 1981 and holds a Master’s of Public Administration from Brigham Young University.

Rita Marko 

International Relations Administrator for the City of Phoenix.

Rita Marko serves as President/CEO of Phoenix Sister Cities, Inc., manages the City’s Protocol Program, and works on international business attraction.

Rita has been with the City of Phoenix more than 20 years as Development Officer for Phoenix Public Library, as a Management Assistant in the City Manager’s Office and as a Management Assistant in the Public Works Department. Prior to joining the City, Rita served as a grantwriter for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Phoenix and worked with the Skokomish Indian Tribe in Washington state.  Initially hired as their Health Planner, Rita also served as an Economic Development Planner and the Director of Economic Development for the tribe. Rita has a Masters degree in anthropology from the University of Arizona.  She was born in Chicago, Illinois.

Russ Yelton

Russ Yelton is president of Yelton and Associates. The firm provides economic development services as well as early stage business solutions. Yelton and Associates has experience both domestically and internationally and has assisted thousands of entrepreneurs to raise funding and bring their products to a variety of markets. As a Board Member at Pinnacle Transplant Technologies, Inc., Yelton provides executive level leadership to a rapidly expanding tissue bank and medical device company. Yelton served as Pinnacle Transplant’s CEO from 2014 to 2017. Prior to joining Pinnacle Transplant Technologies, Yelton was  President and CEO of the Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology located in Flagstaff. NACET is a business incubation program that assists companies with commercializing their technologies in both domestic and international markets.

Prior to coming to Arizona in 2009, Yelton oversaw the creation of a business incubation program in Asheville, North Carolina in an abandoned 141,000 sq feet former BASF manufacturing plant.  That program, located at a community college, included a commercial food kitchen, biotechnology space with wet, dry and core laboratories, light manufacturing and executive offices.

Yelton received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Appalachian State University, a Masters of Business Administration from Western Carolina University and Doctoral studies in Educational Leadership also at WCU.  In addition, he received a European Union Grant in 2008 to complete Evaluation of Sustainability Training from Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration.

Susana Martinez is part of the Economic Development team at City of Peoria. Previously she worked in regional economic development for Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) where she was heavily involved with international business development. Prior to MAG, Susana assisted the Mergers and Acquisitions team at Freeport-McMoRan with Research as a Legal Analyst. An advocate for women, Susana spearheaded the Freeport-McMoRan Women’s Initiative Network and served as its first President.
