Global Chamber Chicago Mega Global Connecting Event

Join us on Tuesday, June 18th at 5pm to 7pm at DIRTT, 325 N Wells St in Chicago

It's THE MEGA GLOBAL Connecting Event, a signature event by Global Chamber to connect with successful exporters and business leaders to inspire your own next global success.
 
Featuring keynote speaker Margo Markopoulos, Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce, Office of Trade and Investment. Margo will be joined by successful exporters and other leaders.
 
DIRTT is hosting us in their magnificent offices 10 floors above Chicago, downtown... it's a WOW location! There will be presentations and lots of strategic connecting time, too - with food and drink.

  1. Head South on Lasalle Street

    2. At the intersection of Lasalle and Kinzie, there is an opening that splits North and South Lasalle. Drive into the slot/opening, and it will put you under the street.

    3. Make a right at the stop sign.

    4. Go to the end, and on the left-hand side, you will see designated DIRTT parking spots. There is also a loading dock. Feel free to park at the dock to unload at the dock. Then  park at any open DIRTT parking spaces.

    5. When you walk up to the loading dock, push the buzzer, and security will let you in and provide you access to the elevator to get to the 10th floor.

  • Guest walk through the front doors at 325 N. Wells street. Check in with front desk and then take the elevator to 10th floor. DIRTT is right there, and they won’t miss it.

Margo Markopoulos
 
Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce, Office of Trade and Investment

Margo Markopoulos has served as the Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce, Office of Trade and Investment since 2015, and as Export Program Director since 2012.  Bringing over 20 years of international experience to her position, Margo leads the Department’s strategies to increase Illinois’ exports and attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the State.   In her capacity as Office Director, Margo manages Illinois’ regional foreign offices, located in six countries and the Illinois State Trade and Export Promotion (ISTEP) program, which assists hundreds of companies annually to expand globally through exports.

Prior to joining the Department of Commerce, Margo worked in the Governor’s Office of Consular Affairs, where she worked closely with the Chicago Diplomatic Corps and planned gubernatorial trade missions for several Illinois Governors, including the State of Illinois’ historic humanitarian mission to Cuba in 1999, which brought the first sitting U.S. Governor to the island in over four decades.

Margo also previously worked as an Expatriate-Repatriate Policy Consultant for Fortune 500 corporations, and she managed foreign business delegations to encourage bilateral trade.

Margo received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois in Chicago and is a certified International Protocol consultant.  Since 2003, Margo has been a member of Children’s Service Board of the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and is active in several international trade organizations.  Margo is a native of Illinois and resides in Chicago with her husband. 

 

Kyungsoo “Dan” Kim

State Director Illinois | Chicago at U.S. Commercial Service, U. S. Department of Commerce

Kyungsoo “Dan” Kim leads the three U.S. Commercial Service offices in Illinois, advocating and promoting exports for U.S businesses. He joined the US Commercial Service, Chicago office in October 2015 as a Trade Specialist after working for the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency. Since then, he has worked on nation-wide projects such as Hannover Messe, 232/301 tariffs, and most recently served as the Global Asia Team Leader.

He has been an active member of the Advanced Manufacturing and Global Automotive/Smart Mobility Teams, where the team’s work was recognized with a Gold Medal during the 73rd Annual Honor Awards for the Back 2 Business – Virtual B2B Auto Expo program. His has built relationships with the AANHPI community, working with the US Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce (USPAACC) to raise the awareness of the Global Diversity Export Initiative and EO 13985 and 14031. He has been a speaker and panelist at the USPAACC annual conference, CelebrAsian, highlighting the resources of the US Commercial Service and outreach to underrepresented and underserved groups.

He has considerable hands-on knowledge dealing with the challenges of exporting and has leveraged his enthusiasm and technical skills to increase the impact of the US Commercial Service to deliver to clients. In addition to his leadership of the Global Asia Team and now the US Commercial Service offices in Illinois, he has been a leading force in the Commerce Department’s largest annual trade mission, Trade Winds, which in 2023 will be focused on Europe/Eurasia with stops in Türkiye, Poland, Denmark, Italy, Romania and Kazakhstan.

 

Demitrus Evans

Principal and Managing Attorney at The Evans International Law Firms

Demitrus is our Global Chamber Chicago Advisory Board Chair.

Demitrus began her legal career as Ralph J. Bunche Fellow for the Midwest region with the NGO Amnesty International, worked in several Chicago based law firms before going in house with the National Railway Company focusing on international sales and distributorships.

Prior to starting The Evans International Law Firms LLC (“TEIL Firms”) in 2009, classified as a minority and Women Owned Business with the County, City and State, she was a civil rights lawyer with Willis & Associates, a trial attorney panel lawyer for the Northern District of Illinois and a partner at Jones & Collins. At TEIL firms she is the managing Attorney and focus on corporate transactional work, litigation and Intellectual Property in the federal and state courts. In addition she arbitrates and speaks on international contractual issues nationally.

Attorney Evans holds licenses in the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Court as well as maintains license in the Northern District Trial Bar, United States Supreme Court, and the Federal Circuit and the International Court of Trade. She earned her BA from Denison University,  her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in Miami, Florida, where she worked on Asylum applications for Hattian, Guantanamo Bay refugees, utilizing her French and studied International Constitutional Law at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. Her International Trade Law LLM, with a Finance concentration, was earned from John Marshall Law School, Chicago and her Entrepreneurial Studies Certificate from the Joseph School of Business, Forest Park, Illinois.

She is the founder of the non-profit, The Evans Exoneration Project, teaches business law and lectures and advocates for International Busienss trade and expansion on several Busienss focused boards.  Demitrus and TEIL Firms received The Joseph Business School’s Global Entrepreneur of the Year, were nominated for Nasbite’s Global Award, and was one of Diversity MBA Magazine’s Top 100 Executives under 50.

 

Erin Van Doorenmaalen

Enterprise Accounts Executive, Creditsafe

Erin has over 10 years of experience working with business credit intelligence industry and has been an Enterprise Accounts Executive at Creditsafe since 2019. As an Enterprise Accounts Executive for the US, she has worked directly for Matthew Debbage, CEO of US and Asia Pacific operations, and has experience with onboarding Fortune 500 companies with multiple users in various countries.  She has a high level of expertise and experience in understanding best practices credit management, with an in-depth understanding of scoring, credit reporting, credit risk, as well as automation of the credit process.  

 

Doug Bruhnke
