Black Consciousness Day

Black Consciousness Day is a national holiday in Brazil celebrated on November 20th to honor the country's Black population. It commemorates the death of Zumbi dos Palmares, a leader of the largest quilombo (a community of escaped slaves). The day serves to celebrate Black resistance, culture, and history, and to reflect on the ongoing struggles against structural racism and the contributions of Afro-Brazilians to the nation.
