Biographies of Speakers (4:30 - 5:45pm PT)

Igor Novikov is a former adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Igor brings a unique set of technological, entrepreneurial and policy perspectives to the dialogue of innovation in Eastern Europe. Over the course of two years, Igor’s lectures and workshops attracted an audience of over 150,000 people and he is considered Ukraine’s leading keynote speaker and futurist - a title he readily rejects.

In addition to his work at Singularity University, Igor’s mission is to develop the world's first attention marketplace with his main technology project, Payphone. Igor’s primary research areas explore the convergence of behavioral science, economics and storytelling and include his concepts of Gamified Transfer of Learning and Dynamic Motivation.

Before Payphone and Singularity University, Igor founded for-profit and social impact organizations in a range of domains including: artificial intelligence, peer to peer lending, blockchain, human rights, international development, carbon offsetting, and solar energy. Igor has a degree in law from the London School of Economics and Political
Science.

 

The Honorable Odette Wilhelmina Bakker is the Honorary Consul of the Netherlands in Arizona. Consul Bakker has lived in Phoenix since 2003. Before emigrating to the USA, she finished Amsterdam Law School and started working for the Dutch Federal Government. As a Public Policy Adviser with the Department of Homeland Security & Interior Affairs (in Dutch BZK), she rotated several positions.

Once in the USA, she worked for the Valley of Sun YMCA. As an Operations Director she successfully managed the YMCA’s Corporate Wellness portfolio, getting intimately acquainted with the local business landscape. In 2016 she made the step back to public service and was hired by the City of Phoenix, as a Management Analyst I for the Neighborhood Services Department. In 2018 she transitioned to the Planning and Development Department and in 2022 she was promoted to Economic Development Manager within the Community and Economic Development Department.

Odette has two children (Ashton who is 17 and Savannah who is 16), is an avid Team Handball player, loves good food and serving the community in various capacities. She currently co-chairs Arizona Forward’s Healthy Communities and Sustainable Growth Committee. Since Summer 2020 she was appointed as the new Honorary Consul of the Netherlands in Arizona.

 

Jevin Hodge is a candidate for Congress, U.S. House District #1. He's a problem solver - helping businesses, non-profits, and governments solve their most pressing issues, like combating the COVID-19 pandemic or expanding access to high-quality public education. Born in Tempe to a single mother, Jevin Hodge saw first-hand how our government can help those who need it the most. Since then, he found meaning in public service and giving back.

At home, he leads organizations like the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center, the longest running Head Start in Arizona. Through his service in the community, Jevin has seen first hand the issues facing Arizona families. We can count on him to:

  • Protect voting rights and protect democracy.
  • Address income inequality and its root causes head-on.
  • Fully fund public schools so every Arizona kid can have the same opportunity he did.
  • Ensure every Arizonan has healthcare, period.

 

Debra Allen is the founder and President of Debra Allen International. Born in Bremen, Germany, Debra brings a unique international perspective to the Arizona real estate market. Since 2003, Debra has distinguished herself from the pack. Trained in cross-cultural communications and fluent in German and English, Debra specializes in residential and investment properties in the U.S., Panama, Mexico and selected cities in Europe. Debra’s access to professionals around the world has led her to establish long-lasting intercontinental connections. To better serve her global client base, Debra obtained the prestige Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designation. Debra is in step with the trend of Arizona as second home ownership with overseas buyers.

Debra is the Past Chairman of SEVRAR’s Global Business & Alliances Council (2014-2018) and an executive board member of the German American Chamber of Commerce in Arizona, Advisor and member of the  Swedish-American Chamber, current Board of Director at SEVRAR her local  Realtor Association (2018-2020), and responsible for our relationships with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and other local city chambers. She  is an organizer for international events, specifically international chambers  of commerce, universities planning for German career fairs and the wanderbUS tour at ASU. Her most recent accomplishment was that she led a delegation on a Real Estate Trade Mission to Panama where she signed a cross country agreement to encourage Trade between Arizona and Panama.

 

Hank Marshall - VP of Operations at Clearflow Group. Hank is VP of Operations at Clearflow Group. Previously hand was Economic Development Executive Officer for City of Phoenix and provided leadership for the department's International, Business Development and Business Retention/Expansion programs and initiatives. Prior to that, Hank was Senior Vice President of International at the Arizona Commerce Authority where he was one of the key executives that assisted with the launching of the Arizona Commerce Authority in July 2011. From 2005 to 2011, Hank served as the CEO of AISLE21, an international consulting firm. Hank also serves as the British Honorary Consul to the state of Arizona. Marshall was raised overseas and spent many years in international corporate assignments. Marshall received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University in 1982.

 

Ricardo Vanella - Executive Director at Global Chamber® Buenos Aires. Mr. Vanella delivers more than 30 years of expertise in advising global corporations, institutions, and NGOs on business development, marketing, communications, and international engagement. He is an experienced speaker, speechwriter, author, and T.V. and radio producer and presenter. He has been Executive Director at Global Chamber Buenos Aires since 2017, and additionally serves on the Global Chamber Latin America Regional Desk.

Ricardo has supported diverse projects funded by the United Nations, European Union, U.S. Department of Commerce, USAID, and Inter-American Development Bank. As a Board Member of GLOBAL TIES U.S., he facilitated partnerships between 94 global councils and the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Previously, he founded and was president of the Argentine-American Network for Leadership (REAL), an association of Argentine IVLP participants of which he is now Advisory Board Chairman.

Mr. Vanella was previously the Director of Clase Ejecutiva, a twice-weekly Argentine radio and TV show focused on politics and economics in a geo-strategic context. Under his leadership, it became the first ISO 9001-certified TV and radio show worldwide. He has a leadership role with The SPECTRUM Group, and he serves on the boards and in the executive leadership of several professional member organizations, including as: Board Member, American Club of Buenos Aires; Member, Cultural Vistas Alumni Council; Board Member, Inter-American Defense College (IADC) Foundation; and President, Inter-American Network of Alumni Associations (IANAmericas). He is a graduate of both the Strategy and Defense Policy Program at the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies, National Defense University and the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.

 

Daniel Zaretsky - Global Advisor at Global Chamber® Tashkent (Uzkekistan). Daniel has many years experience living abroad and working in and around the private, government and NGO sectors. Currently he's is based both in Uzbekistan and his native USA and he's the Managing Director of Uzbekistan & Central Asia for the Israel-USA-Uzbekistan Business Association (IUUBA).

Previously, in Tajikistan, Mr. Zaretsky was a Member of the Board of Directors of AmCham Tajikistan, the American Chamber of Commerce, where he was involved with international trade and investment issues and where he also sat on the Secretariat of the Extractive Resources Transparency Initiative (EITI) Tajikistan. AmChams are in 100 countries and EITI works in 40.

Mr. Zaretsky is also Founder and Country Host of Global Entrepreneurship Week Tajikistan (GEW). GEW takes place in 180 countries and is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. GEW’s 2014 Campaign was nominated for the Best Rookie Country award by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN). He's also a Country Pricing Analyst for Mercer, the world’s largest HR consulting company.

Mr. Zaretsky received his BA in Anthropology from the University of Michigan and his MBA and MIA (Master of International Affairs) degrees from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business and SIPA (School of International and Public Affairs), respectively. Mr. Zaretsky speaks Russian and Persian/Dari/Tajik and has basic knowledge of the Turkic languages, particularly Uzbek and Turkish. He is passionate about bringing new products and services to new markets, regional trade, international entrepreneurship, the SDGs, New Silk Road and connecting people across cultures.

 

Ghazal Khorshidi is the Director of Special Projects at Thunderbird School of Global Management.

She is a T-bird alum of 2018 and focuses on partnerships and strategic initiatives as well as the Dean’s Office Operations.

Ghazal has a diverse background in consulting, education, and healthcare. 

 

 

 

Matthew Kyle - Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer at WeConnect. After graduating from Yale where Matthew studied Economics and Japanese, he played professional basketball in the EuroLeague, African League, in the NBA Pre-season with the New York Knicks and in the Japan League. After basketball he worked for Ernst & Young and then a spin-off of E&Y called Tricor in Tokyo. Then Matthew Co-Founded weConnect with a few of his closest colleagues. weConnect is changing the game when it comes to international expansion by enabling companies to set up offices throughout Asia, Europe, the US, Canada and South America, with one dedicated team managing all of the legal entity setups, and all ongoing back office compliance like accounting, payroll, and tax.  This is all transparent to the client through one or two cloud financial and HR applications to give the client a consolidated and consistent experience despite the difference business cultures and languages they are expanding their business in. Riad Nizam is the President of Master Electronics, a family-owned business celebrating over 50 years as a leading electronic components distributor. Riad received his B.S. from UC Santa Barbara, in Business/Economics and attended a 3-year Executive Education Program, OPM, at Harvard Business School. Riad has over 18 years of industry experience at increasing levels of responsibility and has performed duties in every position of distribution for Master Electronics. His sales-driven philosophy consistently inspires unique and visionary solutions for customers and suppliers and encourages an entrepreneurial mindset within his team members. Riad is an active member of YPO, pursuing a lifelong commitment to learning, developing impactful business relationships, and fostering global expansion for Master Electronics. Doc Jones is a Musician and Executive Director at Arizona International Jazz Day Foundation. William Doc Jones has over 35 years of experience as music educator, program and project Director in the realm of Music and TV production.  He has more than 30 years of professional performance experience, including band director, traveled abroad with noted artists, writer/director of live stage musical performances, arranger and writer, producer, recording studio owner/operator.  Noted for music instruction project development and execution of satellite programs (Chicago, Illinois and Phoenix, Arizona), including as a professional musician. For the past 6 years has been working in conjunction with UNESCO and Herbie Hancock to bring attention to worldwide International Jazz Day.
