Armistice 1918
The Armistice of November 11, 1918, was the agreement that ended the fighting of World War I, taking effect at the "11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month". It was a temporary ceasefire that led to peace negotiations and was signed by the Allies and Germany in a railway car in the Forest of Compiègne, France. This event is now remembered as Armistice Day in many countries, marked by a Two Minute Silence at 11 a.m. on November 11th, and is known as Veterans Day in the United States.
