Day of Reconciliation

The "Day of Reconciliation" is a public holiday in South Africa, observed annually on December 16th, that promotes national unity and healing after apartheid. It was established to move the country forward by acknowledging and addressing past injustices, fostering forgiveness, and renewing a commitment to social cohesion and a more equal future. The day has both historical and modern significance, originally tied to both Afrikaner and liberation struggle traditions before being redefined in 1995 as a celebration of reconciliation.
