National Day of Mourning

Panama has two National Days of Mourning: December 20th, which commemorates Panamanians who died during the 1989 U.S. invasion, and January 9th (known as Martyrs' Day), which honors those killed in the 1964 riots over sovereignty of the Panama Canal Zone. December 20th was officially established as a national day of mourning in 2022.
