Renee Meyer - Global Chamber Strasbourg
From a young age, I was plunged into the world of the pharmaceutical industry. My father and grandfather were both pharmacists, and Meyer & Co was an important part of my life from all angles. In addition to prescription medicines, Meyer Drug sold over-the-counter medicines, perfumes and watches. I helped patients with their purchases, and learned first-hand the value of good client service. On the wholesale side, I learned about billing for hospitals and was one of the first employees to work in the company IT department.
However, there was always the desire to look at life from outside U.S. borders. I studied music and French architecture in France. My first audits for a U.S. packaging company were in Venezuela and Colombia because they needed a Spanish speaker. And finally, at the age of 30, I established residency in Europe, first in Switzerland, and now in France. I returned to pharma with Hoffmann-LaRoche. Work with pharmaceutical startups followed.
With a financial mindset, I always seek to promote products and projects that work towards a positive triple bottom-line, which means incorporating social and environmental factors. For several years, guided by a scientifically-based concept, I worked with a consultancy group in Geneva to guide organizations in the integration of sustainability into their strategy.
As a polyglot and innovative entrepreneur in the life science space, I accompany European medtech companies in their transition to the U.S. market. I travel frequently to the U.S. and am continually in contact with American professionals. I hear and see how corporate cultures evolve, and live the differences between the different parts of the country.
