Mark Collier - Senior Businesses Consultant and Faculty Member at the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (UGA SBDC)

As a Senior Business Consultant and faculty member with the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (UGA SBDC), Mark delivers high value consulting and educational resources to entrepreneurs, business owners and senior level managers. Mark assists valued clients in evaluating and strategizing the best and most efficient path to starting or growing a successful business.

Mark Collier joins the UGA SBDC after an accomplished career in the private sector and a temporary assignment with the U.S. Small Business Administration office of disaster assistance. As a capital projects program manager, Mark has successfully managed a series of residential, mixed use, and commercial real estate development projects over a 20-year career. Mark brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the SBDC in the critical business functional areas of strategic planning, project management, business process improvement, and operational efficiency improvement initiatives. Mark holds a bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt University and a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University.

Mark was named a 2019, 2020 and 2021 Flewellen Award Winner for consulting excellence at the UGA SBDC which is one of the highest honors at the SBDC. The award winner(s) must perform at a level of excellence in multiple consulting categories throughout the previous calendar year.

Mark was appointed to Georgia Governor Kemp’s Georgian’s First taskforce on minority and woman owned business engagement where he contributed his wealth of knowledge on the goals, challenges and pain points of small business growth and development.

Mark also hosted The Playbook business show on the ASBN network where he interviewed emerging entrepreneurs, seasoned business owners and resource experts. Mark has also authored several white papers which have been featured in national publications. Mark has a true passion for small business growth and development.

 

Laurent Kahl - International Trade Consultant at the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (UGA SBDC)

Laurent has extensive private sector experience in the International ( Export/Import) Trade arena – over 4 decades in many industries /services, geographic areas ( 7 regions,) and countries ( 70+).

Laurent’s Export Sales Management experience includes working for a wide range of large Multi-Nationals Enterprises ( MNE’s)including: HELLA (German automotive parts manufacturer) , Habasit America (Swiss manufacturer of conveyor components and motors),International Paper (major American paper manufacturer) , Kaiser Aluminum (U.S. manufacturer of fertilizers and chemicals) and Hercules International (U.S. wood products manufacturer). 

As for his Import Sales Management experience, he created his own importing venture, Filter Supply America, where he represented a major German manufacturer of industrial filters (Mann + Hummel) that were distributed and sold in the U. S. and Canada. Laurent also acted as an (Importer) Manufacturers Representative for LM Handling SPA. , a family owned company based in Modena, Italy that manufactured high quality, custom made, high speed industrial conveyors and accessories.

Laurent has additional international logistics experience working for the Port of Charleston as a Regional Cargo Sales Manager –Northeast Region, in New York City.
