What is World Environment Day?
Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually on 5 June since 1973, World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world. In 2026, it is hosted by the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The celebration has become one of the world’s most far-reaching platforms in support of environmental causes. Tens of millions of people have joined, both virtually and in person, to take part in activities, events, and all kinds of initiatives around the world.
