Global Chamber® was pleased to collaborate with Arizona State University (ASU) with a cohort of U.S. Department of State's Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is the flagship program of the U.S. Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). YALI was created in 2010 and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2020. Established in 2014, the Mandela Washington Fellowship has brought nearly 4,400 young leaders from every country in Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for academic and leadership training. The Fellows, between the ages of 25 and 35, are accomplished innovators and leaders in their communities and countries.

These were virtual roundtable discussions with Young African Leaders on three main opportunity topics... business, healthcare and advocacy... and centered around making valuable connections.
For six weeks each summer since 2014, ASU has hosted a cohort, but because of the current pandemic, last year’s program was canceled, and this year’s Fellowship was entirely virtual. The fellows are between the ages of 25 and 35, participating from over 25 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Historically, 44% of Fellows own a business, and 36% of them run a non-profit. The U.S. State Department does a good job of selecting talented leaders who already are making a difference, and have the capacity for more.
Connect to these Young African Leaders in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and other parts of Africa to find new opportunities.
